What does it mean to be saved?

The Bible tells us that there is joy in heaven every time someone comes to Christ for salvation and forgiveness. We are glad to have you join us as a part of God's family. Jesus said that "Whoever does the will of Him who sent me is my mother, and sister and mother." That means that all who have accepted Christ are brothers and sisters in Christ and therefore we are together part of the family of God.

There is much to learn about the Bible and about Jesus Christ. The most important thing to know is that God loves you very much and has a wonderful plan for your life. God sent His only begotten Son to die on the cross in our place for our sins that by accepting Him we can now enter freely into heaven. Now that we have accepted Christ we show our love for Him by living a godly Christian life. I will be explaining more about this as you read on.

"Today is the day of salvation!" the Bible declares, and we are so glad that you have accepted Christ as your saviour! Heaven is rejoicing now that you are saved. I will explain a bit about salvation, and how we get to heaven.

Simply by asking God to forgive our sins and believing that Jesus gave his life on the cross to pay our way to heaven, we are saved. The Bible shows us that we cannot earn our own salvation. But that Jesus paid the full price for our sins when He died on the cross in our place. Doing good deeds will give us rewards in heaven, but it cannot get us into heaven because no one is good enough. You would have to be perfect to get to heaven by your own goodness. The Bible says that "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We have all made mistakes. Everyone has sinned. That is why we need a saviour. Jesus, being God, is the only one who has never sinned. Since Jesus is without sin, He could die in our place on the cross for our sins. Trying to get to heaven by good works is like trying to jump up to the moon. It can't be done! But, if NASA were to let you ride one of their space ships to the moon you could go. That is what Jesus did for us. He is our way to get to heaven. He paid the price of the trip and will give us the ride to Heaven. There is no other way to get to heaven other than through Jesus and His death on the cross in our place. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. And no one can come to the father but by me." It would be like going on an expensive world cruise that you could never afford. If someone paid the full price of your ticket you would be able to go as long as you were willing to take the offer of letting someone else pay. You wouldn't have to pay when you arrive, you would just have to show them you ticket and they would see it was paid in full and allow you on. It is also that way to get to heaven. Jesus paid the full price of your ticket. All you need is to accept it. If a ticket was purchased from another cruise line, it would not be accepted.

A ticket purchased by fraud would be useless, but instead you would find that you are booked on the Titanic. So also, if you try to get to heaven by any other way you will be refused. Jesus is the ONLY way to get to heaven. Your own good works cannot get you there. A denomination or church cannot get you there. No religion can get you there. Only by accepting what Jesus did on the cross can get you to heaven.

Good works do not get us to heaven, but they are still important to God. Doing good deeds is an evidence of our salvation, but they do not give us salvation. Because of what Jesus did for us, we now want to do good in order to please God. The Bible talks about "a woman who had been forgiven of much," washing Jesus' feet with her tears and drying them with her hair. When Jesus knew people were critical of her, he said that "one who has been forgiven much also loves much." We now try to do good things and live right because we now love Jesus who gave His life for us.
